Lantern Bearer, Sage

A chestnut mule with one foreleg lifted mid-step, five cream moons on its flank, carrying a rider in a long dusty rose coat and a wide black hat. She holds a paper lantern on a thin black pole, the only thing in the picture that seems to be going anywhere. Three stalks of grass at its feet, a cream saddle cloth with a black border, and a sage green wall with the texture of old plaster.

The first of the Folk Riders. The sage version is the dusk one: the wall is the colour of a garden at the end of the day, and the lantern has just been lit.

Print: every print is on matte paper with no shine. Archival matte is a 250 gsm off-white paper printed in four colours; fine art matte is a 200 gsm paper printed in twelve colours for smoother tones and deeper darks. A white border is printed around the artwork where the paper's proportions differ from the picture.

It is a print, not a painting: the surface is smooth and flat. Any brush or knife texture you see is part of the picture, not something you can feel.

Framed print: the same print in a wooden frame in black, white, light brown wood or dark brown wood, behind shatterproof plexiglass. Ready to hang, with the hanging kit included. There is no separate card mount; the printed white border does that job.
